Starting Your Dream Before A New Year

Starting Your Dream Before A New Year

Here we are in November 2018. A month where you celebrate by being thankful and you look forward to the big feast. It is also a time to think about starting your dream before a new year.

Let me tell you why November is the perfect time to start. First, you owe it to yourself to begin. Starting something that you have always thought of doing is rewarding.

It is going towards that thing that has been keeping you up at night. Only you know what that is. At this time of year, helps you look at how fast time has flown.

Have you spent it doing what you are passionate about?

Time to reflect

If you haven’t, ask yourself why not? I like to reflect on how far I have come with writing for instance. I go back to the beginning of the year.

This helps me gauge my progress to date. If you haven’t started your dream yet it is a good exercise to start doing. Look at how you have spent your time so far.

Where might you omit things that aren’t benefiting you?

Most might look at all these months and notice that they all had some things in common. Perhaps that was working a 9-5 job, raising a family, being a wife or significant other. These are the usual things.

Start the process

However, what step could you start taking now? Some type of action that requires you to go for it. Look at it as a way to stop not put it off until the new year is underway. Your time is now.

It is like someone giving you the head start. When in fact that person is you. You give yourself permission to start that diet, begin that side business or a brand-new career altogether.

Maybe it is starting the process to register for college and go back to school. It could be that you have always wanted to start a hobby. What is it that you want to start today?

If you have already started the process but have been procrastinating, get back on track. You would be surprised at what you can do before the start of 2019. That is what keeps me going.

Knowing the time that I still have left to submit articles. The opportunity to publish new content, freelance as a proofreader and so many other things under my writer life. I love knowing that I can still finish strong in 2018.

The same holds true for you. All it takes is that initial first step towards that thing that beckons you. Think of it as a gift that is waiting to be opened.

Are you ready to reveal what is underneath all that sparkly gift wrap? I know that I am.

College Send-Off Bittersweet

College Send-Off Bittersweet

The time is upon us to drop our kids off at college. A time where students step into the next chapter of their life. Yet, they are not the only ones making their way towards unknown territory. The same holds true for the parents that must learn to live without them.

The following is a letter to my son upon his leaving home and going towards his calling in life.  It is such a bittersweet time.

The Little Things

I’m like any other mother out there holding on to what once was and trying to let you go. I know it’s important to you to get your feet wet in that next big thing in life. You are venturing towards a fresh independence of becoming who you are meant to be.

That doesn’t change the fact that of course I’ll miss the little things. For you see the little things started so many years ago. It started the very day that you were born.

When I met you for the first time and held your tiny hand in mine. What about the time that you finally learned how to walk or ride a bike with your Dads help? Throwing you fun birthday parties just because it made you happy.

As your parents we got blessed with eighteen full years of having you home. People told us that one day you would have to leave. The day that your life would begin in college.

That was so many years ago. I thought I had more time with you. To do all that I used to do.
For you see not only are you beginning something great, but I am letting go of one of my biggest achievements in life: You. There really isn’t any manual that tells me how to go on without you.

Time to Let Go

Only the wisdom that comes with time that it will all be alright. I’ll still worry across the miles because that is what a mother does. Yet, I’ll be your biggest cheerleader through your college years.

The same way that I was when you were in sports growing up. Going to as many games or matches as possible. Being there for you meant everything. To see your smile when I was there made it worth it.

That brings me to the present moment. The finality of having to release you into this crazy world of ours. In the hopes that you will continue to make good choices.

To be honest it’s more of no longer being able to protect you from it all. No more being a helicopter mom of sorts. There aren’t words to describe the way that I will feel once you are gone. The days when I’ll walk past an empty bedroom.

Who ever said parenting was a piece of cake? Nobody did I’m sure. So, yes, I may be a little mushy with this letter, but let’s get to the next part.

Things I Want for You

I want you to do your best in college. Get in there and see who you are. Enjoy the path of self-discovery. Don’t let fear dictate who you are meant to become. If someone thinks that you can’t it is your job to prove them wrong.

Dream big and don’t ever let anyone make you think small. Be a giver and do it without asking for anything in return. When you are chasing your dream it’s important to lead others to do the same.

Hang in There

There will be times when your self-doubt will test you. It’ll make you think that you aren’t worthy, ignore it. You are way bigger than that.

When things get rough you can vent for a bit and then move on. You are only human. Look at upcoming obstacles as a challenge. I wish that I could tell you that you won’t get any, but you will.

It’s part of your journey. Something that is bound to happen. Don’t worry because it will soon pass as soon as it arrives.

Determination Goes a Long Way

Be determined about what it is that you are seeking in life. The most successful people walk through fear because their commitment pushes them past it. Be that person.

Through it all you will shed layers of doubt and you will gain layers of maturity. If there is one thing that your independence will teach you is perseverance and true grit.

Three things that you should always keep in your pocket are: your integrity, your morals and your faith. This is a time that you will see what you are made of. It’s a big test to see if you will either give up or keep going.

The good news is that you are not alone. You can always lean on me no matter where you are. When in doubt all that you must do is look up.

Believe in yourself the way that I believe in you. I know that you will still carry a bit of me with you. You’ll remember our talks and I hope that will move you forward.

New Beginnings

Although this may seem like the end of what we have always known it’s only the beginning. This is the part where it gets even better yet again. The part where you get to be the director of your own story.

As you embark on your next chapter be ready to create your own opportunities. Don’t wait around for them to arrive. Do the work and the rest will soon follow.

You are well on your way to greatness. This is the moment where you embrace how lucky you are. It is where you get to pursue everything that you have ever wanted. A dream in the making is waiting for you.

Although it feels bittersweet know that I am happy for you. For you are chasing your dream like I knew that you would.

In my mind you’ll always be my baby, but for now I must let you take the lead. I’ll be watching on the sidelines rooting for you every step of the way.

You have us, your family giving you high fives. Be ready because you have what it takes and then some. It’s time to discover the part of you that has been waiting for this moment.

Now’s your time to gather all your hopes and wishes. Put them before you to allow yourself to dream big.

Why stop there though? I say dream as big as you are willing to go. Even if it seems impossible. For when you do great things are sure to happen.

Obtaining a Proofreader to Enhance an About Page

Obtaining a Proofreader to Enhance an About Page

Have you ever visited a website and looked at the About page? Each page on the website reflects the overall brand. Obtaining a proofreader to enhance an About page is beneficial. It is a place where the audience can learn more about that business or blog.

It is as equally important as the home page. They all require that you pay close attention to misspelled words, grammar and punctuation. Sometimes mistakes get overlooked.

A proofreader serves to make suggested corrections. They are the behind the scenes go to person and are those extra set of eyes. A proofreader catches those things that were missed the first time.

Imagine that a potential reader or client comes across your website. Wouldn’t you want the opportunity to get those errors corrected ahead of time?

Staying true to your voice

What if there was a better way to convey your message? While keeping your “voice’ throughout the rest of your content. That is the beauty of a proofreader that can make those corrections and assist with editing.

People get busy and having someone take care of those concerns will go a long way. You get the best of both worlds by providing more value with what you do. Your audience or potential client will see that as well.

Think of an About page as that moment that you get to introduce yourself to someone. You get the chance to shake hands and get to know a person.

An About page shifts over time

An About page is also a page that evolves over time. Perhaps things have changed for you since you first wrote it. Keeping it fresh over time is a good way to prune it. You add what enhances what you are all about and you cut out what is no longer relevant.

Read a few About pages to get a sense of what that brand or person is trying to convey. Do you notice any similarities? Sometimes they will all carry a common factor, yet still set themselves apart from others.

What is it about you that makes you different?

These are things to think about. It will help you look at your overall mission with your website. Is it easy to read and will your audience understand what you are for?

Go back to the basics

Put yourself in your own shoes. Would you want to read more after visiting your About page?
Think of it as your opportunity to make your first impression to your virtual visitors. That is usually a good place to start at.

We currently live in a world of high tech. However, we can still make those personable genuine impressions with our brand by checking off the basics first.

I hope this post helped you think more about obtaining a proofreader and how it can benefit your needs. As a proofreader I’d love the opportunity to help you too. Feel free to reach out to me for more information.

In the meantime, think about what you would like your About page to say.

What kind of information would you like to see in yours?

High School Graduation Means Letting Go

High School Graduation Means Letting Go

The minute your child enters kindergarten you are already prepping for milestones. Yet, when it is time for their senior year that is when reality sets in. High School graduation means letting go.

This is where I was most recently with our youngest and several years ago with our oldest. All sorts of emotions start to come about. Often, I think I’d like to revert back to accidentally stepping on Legos. This would allow me the opportunity of reliving their childhood once again.

Sounds extreme doesn’t it? I mean who would want to step on tiny hard plastic pieces? Or maybe I’d like to push my kids on a swing again at the park.

Reminiscing Good for Your Soul

I remember when our kids were little I thought that graduation seemed so far away. I don’t think that I took my time for granted, but the progression of time speeding by seemed unlikely.

Back then being part of their moments with growing up felt like time was standing still. As if I was in a time-lapse photography session with each milestone that was reached. Teaching our kids how to walk or my husband teaching them something that I didn’t know how to do.

It was all part of the process as a family. Being connected on a level so deep that the thought of them growing up seemed so far away.

My Tools for Fitness Success

My Tools for Fitness Success

You’ve heard of accountability partners with fitness. However, fitness success means partnering up with yourself first. You get the pleasure of becoming your own partner from Day 1. My tools for fitness success consist of a variety of things.

Engaging on a fitness journey is unique for everyone. You alone decide what will and won’t work for you. Expect to fall off the wagon a few times, but remember failure is only temporary. The good news is that you can get back up and start over.

First, put some things in motion that will help you succeed. Are you the type that will lay out your exercise clothing the night before or do you just wing it the day of? I have done both.

The main thing for me is that I have ready to wear clothing. I can’t say I prefer to get my clothes ready the night before. I’m the type of person that is used to working under pressure. Throwing something on last minute still gets me to the gym.

My shoes are my first priority. A good pair of workout sneakers are essential. One trusted brand that I love is Nike.

Where to Find a Good Deal

Recently, I jumped on to Purcado to search deals on sneakers along with sexy heels for fun. My search led me to a variety of popular shoe sites where I came across a 25% off sale on Nike cross training sneakers and they offered free shipping.

I’m a huge fan of traditional black and white sneakers. Except this time, I wanted a pop of color either in pink or red. I ended up finding some very cute ones with that splash of color in pink.

My goal was to stick to a budget of $50 and with tax it came out to $48.04. Talk about a win for me! I stayed true to my budget.

Gym Must Haves

My tools for fitness success include: resistance bands, an SPIbelt (running belt), weight training gloves, Bose earbuds and a huge dose of belief in my capabilities. For now, I carry it all in a tote and in the future, I’d love to find a traditional gym bag in pink or rose gold.

I used to hold on to a pair of sneakers until I couldn’t wear them anymore. Nowadays there are more choices than ever to have more than a single pair. By preparing for fitness you dictate what works best for you.

I’m the type of person that needs to wear exercise apparel that makes me feel good about myself. Doing what it takes to get the job done. That might mean wearing a top that has an inspirational message on it.

One of my favorite is a top that says You vs. You. In the end that is really what it is. Your biggest obstacle is yourself.

Having the right tools in your gym bag and mindset is what will steer you towards success. If it means getting a pair of kicks that will encourage strength I am in. I will be using Purcado again and will also look for some shoes for my family.

Fitness means different things for everyone. Maybe you are starting out on your journey or you have been doing this for a while. Wherever you see yourself keep your focus on how it will benefit you in the long run. Preparation is key.

Are you willing to do what it takes to get you there?

Spring Cleaning Your Dream

Spring Cleaning Your Dream

Spring cleaning your dream is a time to refresh what has gathered dust. If left unattended or neglected your dream will wither away with time. All dreams start out fresh and new with so many possibilities.

Life happens and what started out with urgency tends to get pushed to the back burner. That is when your dream starts asking for you to dust it off. It might be in the form of changing up your daily routine. The important thing to do is to simply begin the process.

Evaluate where you are currently at with your dream and your goals. When you have a dream it usually has a few things that fall under that umbrella. To be productive, you start by taking care of yourself.

When you are operating at your prime then the rest of your success follows. Maybe it means restarting your fitness routine or having nights out with your significant other. Do whatever it is to get your dream nice and shiny again.

Priorities are a must

Polish it up by taking a no excuses attitude towards it. When life gets busy it is easier to let things fall by the wayside. Start prioritizing your goals.

How important are they for you? Be willing to tweak things around a bit. Check and see how you are spending your time.

There are a variety of things that will drain valuable time. Too much time on social media or watching television are some of them. Brainstorm ways that will get your day started off to your advantage.

Have a plan

That could mean getting up a little earlier to exercise, reading or working before your other things begin. We all get a full twenty-four hours to do with as we please.

Spring cleaning might mean you have to let go of things no longer beneficial. Make a list to see what those things are. What can you live without?

Replace what you let go with what you will add to accomplish your goals. Getting rid of the time wasters will be your reward in the end. You will find what you thought you needed you won’t end up missing.

When you spring clean your home, you end up getting rid of things. Later you realize that you should have started a long time ago. That is the same feeling you will have with spring cleaning your dream.

The seasons of the year wait on no one. They come and go. The same holds true with the opportunities of your dream.

Now is the perfect time to start polishing off what is important to you. Check and see where you have allowed things to collect dust with your goals. With the right amount of elbow grease, you will be back on track with the things that matter with your dream.

Once you do you will get a fresh start with a new perspective on where you want to go. Dreams only come true when you put in the work. The time to tidy up is now.

Are you ready to spring forward with your dream?

The Story Behind Lula Lucy Stationery

The Story Behind Lula Lucy Stationery

Creating a greeting card takes a lot of thought. I remember when I came up with the idea. I wanted to help others inspire that special someone. Everyone knows a person in their inner circle that needs encouragement. Right?

Ignite

Lula Lucy Stationery

With my Ignite card I wanted to spark that very thing hidden in your core. That dream of yours that is just waiting for you to get it going. All that you need is that drive to pursue it.

Be the Sparkle

Lula Lucy Stationery

Be the Sparkle is one of my favorite cards because I thought of the person that would do just that. The kind of person that is on the cusp of releasing their dream to the world. People can be that person that brings hope to someone’s life.

Don’t Give Up

Lula Lucy Stationery

Don’t Give Up is the card that you can give to anyone. It reminded me of a person that is unsure if they should pursue a dream. Maybe they have been trying and have encountered some obstacles along the way that shook their belief system.

Helping keep someone going is the best gift in the world. It is a reminder for them to pursue it no matter what.

Cast Fear Aside

Lula Lucy Stationery

Anyone that has ever gone after something and quit usually did so due to fear. It’s about taking that next step with the Cast Fear Aside card. Holding on to fear is what will keep you from some of the best moments in your life.

I chose the colors because they present a welcoming feel to them with their watercolor format. Making them as a single card that you simply flip over helped give them character.

It was important for me to help support a local printer in my community too. Besides being made in the USA I also believe in giving back. A portion of the proceeds go to A Cure In Sight.

Now you know a little bit about my creation and these are a few of the cards in my collection. I invite you to look at the rest of them on my shop. Maybe they might resonate with you or a special loved one in your life.

As always, I appreciate each and every one of you. Keep dreaming, keep going and don’t think for a moment that it’s not worth it.

Each of us were created to make the world a better place. We can all start by sharing our brilliant sparkle with others.

Are you ready?

Doing More of What You Love

Doing More of What You Love

Each day is a chance to doing more of what you love. Looking at your days of the week may show you a pattern. You might notice that you are doing the same things throughout the week. How do you break out of that cycle?

This doesn’t mean you abandon your responsibilities, but rather explore ways to add value to your day. Maybe you have thought of visiting a place on your wish list. It could be something small or something that you need to plan.

With careful thought you could find yourself doing more things that make you happy. Maybe you are waiting for your significant other to take the lead. Instead you pour yourself into being busier. One word of advice: stop and instead you take the lead.

If you work, you may find that you are too busy to plan outside of your normal routine. People often make it harder than what it is. You could look at your day in two ways.

You work a set number of hours. Then you go on to other responsibilities whether that is on your own or with your family or significant other. The second way is to carve out some time where you get to enjoy something different.

Maybe that is getting together with a friend. If you are a parent maybe you try something new with your kids. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it does have to provide enjoyment. You can work the daily grind and do it all over the next day or you could change up your routine today.

Don’t neglect the signs around you

What if you neglect noticing the signs around you that you miss out on it?

It happens all the time. Especially if you work a 9-5 job. A friend asks you to get together, your child asks to spend time with you or a loved one hints for some quality time together. How many times have you missed out on a chance to make memories?

Those are the things that you’ll remember you loved doing. Put your cell phone down, get off your laptop and give in to these moments. They are the things that will make you happier.

Change up the way that you do things. See a movie during the week instead of the weekend. Eat at a special restaurant instead of waiting for your birthday. Say yes to an invite instead of wondering if you should go or not.

It’s okay to continue working hard at your job and on your dreams. Although it’s important to remember that we all get the same hours in one day, in one month and in one year.

Give yourself time to indulge in the little things, the big things and anything else in between. Feeling more fulfilled at the end of the day will be your reward. You’ll be able to go to bed with a smile on your face.

If you could do more of what you love today, what would it be?

Archery Tournament a Godsend

Archery Tournament a Godsend

I’ve been practicing archery for a couple of years now. I do not practice every week and only do it on occasion. The times that I have practiced with Christine I make sure that I do my best.

I found Christine Harrelson in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and am happy to say that she has taught me all that I know. A year ago, we had talked about entering a local tournament, but I got cold feet.

Have you ever been afraid to do something out of your comfort zone?

Entering a tournament certainly felt that way for me. It is one thing to do it for yourself as a hobby. It’s another thing to do it with a bunch of other more experienced archers.

I found out about this tournament at the last minute and signed up for it. The minute I signed up I knew that I was obligated to see it through.

Be Thankful For The Growing Pains

Be Thankful for the Growing Pains

Ask anyone that has ever reached success doing what they love if they ever encountered growing pains. Without hesitation they will tell you that they have. Not only once, but countless times along their path to greatness. Be thankful for the growing pains.

Pushing through the growing pains with your dream requires true grit. You are determined enough to doing what must be done by having grit.

What do you do if you face uncertainty?

Do it anyway. Pursuing your goals requires a backbone. If you didn’t have one to begin with you will soon develop one. This is only true if you stick with it though.

Learn to become disciplined when it comes to facing adversity with your dream. Think of it as a challenge. It is a test to see if you will move on to the winning circle. You start off in Round 1 and then move on to other rounds each time that you push through.
