A Supportive Community Strengthens Your Dream

A Supportive Community Strengthens Your Dream

A supportive community strengthens your dream. Building a community helps you tackle on tough projects. Those projects can consist of big and small goals. Surrounding yourself with folks that get what you are doing is crucial.

First thing to accept is that those closest to you may not always have your vision. That is okay. It’s not for everyone.

Look for people that are on a similar path. Network when you can whether that is work related or socially. Be genuine when you do it.

Be that person that lifts and empowers someone else. The type of person that someone else can look up to and appreciate.

Get Comfortable with Fear

Are you shy?

It’s time to embrace your fearless side. Everyone has that side. Often it is sitting on the sidelines waiting to be invited.

Maybe you haven’t noticed that it is there, but it is. Learning how to step away from being shy and jumping into being fearless doesn’t come easy. It takes guts.

It takes a strong enough will to want to accomplish your goal to get you there. If you haven’t succeeded at something have you asked yourself why not?

Allowing the Fails to Prepare You

Not succeeding right away doesn’t mean that you won’t ever succeed. Being able to fail and get back up takes grit.

It’s the desire to prove to yourself that you indeed will succeed. The first time that you fail at something is easier than the times after that. Failing the first time preps you for those multiple fails.

It is when you fail that you begin to question your path. You begin to doubt if you are meant to do that thing or not.

Failures will season you for the future. Your future self is depending on you failing. Sounds silly right?

My Tools for Fitness Success

My Tools for Fitness Success

You’ve heard of accountability partners with fitness. However, fitness success means partnering up with yourself first. You get the pleasure of becoming your own partner from Day 1. My tools for fitness success consist of a variety of things.

Engaging on a fitness journey is unique for everyone. You alone decide what will and won’t work for you. Expect to fall off the wagon a few times, but remember failure is only temporary. The good news is that you can get back up and start over.

First, put some things in motion that will help you succeed. Are you the type that will lay out your exercise clothing the night before or do you just wing it the day of? I have done both.

The main thing for me is that I have ready to wear clothing. I can’t say I prefer to get my clothes ready the night before. I’m the type of person that is used to working under pressure. Throwing something on last minute still gets me to the gym.

My shoes are my first priority. A good pair of workout sneakers are essential. One trusted brand that I love is Nike.

Where to Find a Good Deal

Recently, I jumped on to Purcado to search deals on sneakers along with sexy heels for fun. My search led me to a variety of popular shoe sites where I came across a 25% off sale on Nike cross training sneakers and they offered free shipping.

I’m a huge fan of traditional black and white sneakers. Except this time, I wanted a pop of color either in pink or red. I ended up finding some very cute ones with that splash of color in pink.

My goal was to stick to a budget of $50 and with tax it came out to $48.04. Talk about a win for me! I stayed true to my budget.

Gym Must Haves

My tools for fitness success include: resistance bands, an SPIbelt (running belt), weight training gloves, Bose earbuds and a huge dose of belief in my capabilities. For now, I carry it all in a tote and in the future, I’d love to find a traditional gym bag in pink or rose gold.

I used to hold on to a pair of sneakers until I couldn’t wear them anymore. Nowadays there are more choices than ever to have more than a single pair. By preparing for fitness you dictate what works best for you.

I’m the type of person that needs to wear exercise apparel that makes me feel good about myself. Doing what it takes to get the job done. That might mean wearing a top that has an inspirational message on it.

One of my favorite is a top that says You vs. You. In the end that is really what it is. Your biggest obstacle is yourself.

Having the right tools in your gym bag and mindset is what will steer you towards success. If it means getting a pair of kicks that will encourage strength I am in. I will be using Purcado again and will also look for some shoes for my family.

Fitness means different things for everyone. Maybe you are starting out on your journey or you have been doing this for a while. Wherever you see yourself keep your focus on how it will benefit you in the long run. Preparation is key.

Are you willing to do what it takes to get you there?

Follow your Dream Despite the Doubt

Follow your Dream Despite the Doubt

Blogging weekly this past year has taught me how to be consistent. I have connected with some amazing people and made new friendships.

Do you have a dream that you have put on hold?

What a lot of people don’t realize is that all dreams take time. Not everyone starts out rolling in the dough. It’s not about that anyway. Making money is important eventually, but the main reason should be more than that.

It should be something that you are passionate about. It’s that one thing that you can’t wait to get up and start each day.

I have friends that almost gave up on their dream and quitting seemed like the logical choice. These were women with full-time jobs and families. There was plenty of balancing on what to do and what not to do.

Archery Tournament a Godsend

Archery Tournament a Godsend

I’ve been practicing archery for a couple of years now. I do not practice every week and only do it on occasion. The times that I have practiced with Christine I make sure that I do my best.

I found Christine Harrelson in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and am happy to say that she has taught me all that I know. A year ago, we had talked about entering a local tournament, but I got cold feet.

Have you ever been afraid to do something out of your comfort zone?

Entering a tournament certainly felt that way for me. It is one thing to do it for yourself as a hobby. It’s another thing to do it with a bunch of other more experienced archers.

I found out about this tournament at the last minute and signed up for it. The minute I signed up I knew that I was obligated to see it through.

3 Ways to Finish Strong With Goals in 2017

3 Ways to Finish Strong with Goals in 2017

Some people decide that when it comes to the months of November and December that it’s time to take a break. The hustle and the bustle of the holiday season have a tendency to put things on the back burner. For good reason too if you are the type that does a lot of holiday entertaining.

What if you could redirect some of that time to your goals?

Write it Down

First, write down your goals in a notebook. What did you want to accomplish at the beginning of the year? Compare that to what you want to accomplish now in this season. Are your goals similar or different? It is easy to feel ambitious at first only to find out later that it wasn’t easy after all.

The reason a goal becomes difficult is because you set up obstacles for yourself or the biggest culprit is making excuses. It’s more pleasing to explain why you didn’t accomplish your goals if you back it up with a reason. You can give quick reasons on why some goals didn’t work.

When you do that it hinders you from starting and finishing your goals.

Take Actionable Steps

Goals take action. Without action they are a mere wish or simple thought. If your goal is to start getting fit it will mean becoming active. If you want to finish strong than you will have to start a fitness routine.

A Year in Review of Lula Lucy: My Journey

A Year in Review of Lula Lucy

You might call her my alter ego, but I like to think of her as my sidekick. Who knew that a year ago this month I would embark on this dream of mine. Following your passion doesn’t happen by accident. Being intentional despite fear or uncertainty is what it takes to move forward.

It is the very thing that I did. I have started and not finished my pursuits many times. All because I didn’t believe enough. Let me share my journey with you.

How I got from then to now. The birth of Lula Lucy was inspired by sitting down over coffee with Linda Mendible. We had met at church. Little did I know that she would inspire me to be more.

I knew I needed an online presence. As a writer it is a given. However, I put it off as long as I could because deep down I never wanted to fail.

I was a writer way before blogging was even a thing. My start took place doing Op-Ed pieces in a newspaper and I wrote for free for quite a while.

We all start somewhere don’t we?

Becoming Lula Lucy

In 2016 before ever speaking with Linda I had planned on taking some photos for my family. Being a mom you get accustomed to taking pictures of everyone except yourself. What were supposed to be pics to give to my family turned into a photo shoot for my blog.

Around this time I had a custom painting done by the very talented Dan Campbell and he decided to call it “Woman with a Dream.” Every time that I looked at that painting I was inspired to do more. So you see when your passion calls on you things start to align as they should.

In the beginning I was on the hunt for my writing voice. I questioned if I even had one. I reached out to succesful bloggers to ask how to find it.

How do you really answer that kind of question though?

They reassured me that I would find it all on my own. There was not a magic formula to make it so. It simply was something that would come naturally. Plus, I would know it and feel it in my gut.

This past year has taught me what I’m capable of. It has shown me that it takes time, sacrifice, dedication and to never quit. That right there is what I consider to be the secret sauce: never quitting.

Have you ever started your dream and then quit?

That will be the only way it will not work for you. Finding your passion and sticking with it takes courage. The only person that will ever be in your way is you.

I have been in my way several times and guess what happened? It delayed my efforts and my end result. I try my best to push past it and do it anyway.

Your Mindset Plays A Powerful Role

Your Mindset Plays A Powerful Role

Your mindset plays a powerful role in getting out of your comfort zone. When you look in the mirror that is the person that determines your actions. The things that you will either talk yourself into doing or talk yourself out of doing.

There is power in convincing yourself in the things that you can do. At the same time not believing in yourself has an equal amount of power too.

It is nice to know that you alone dictate what you will do. By changing the way that you think you can achieve your desired results. If you keep telling yourself you can’t do something then you won’t.

Is it easier said than done?

At times, it can be depending on the goal that you have. For instance, recently I had to do something in my workout that I was afraid of trying. It was a box jump.

The minute that I saw that on my list to do I wanted to run in the opposite direction. A lot of things crossed my mind. What if fail at trying?

Ask Lucy: How Do I Get Out Of This Slump?

How Do I Get Out Of This Slump?

This weeks question comes from Kelly.

“I have been trying to be successful as an entrepreneur, but am having trouble staying motivated. I love what I do, but still feel like I’m not good enough. I see other people who are way more successful than I am. This makes me feel intimidated and makes me feel like going back to a 9-5 job. At least that is reliable. I have to admit I do feel like quitting. How do I get myself out of this slump?”

I would love to say that I can relate to all that you are saying, but I also have a current day job myself. I would enjoy being in your shoes, but I do know that it does come with a price.

Being an entrepeneur takes commitment, dedication, focus and sacrifice. Maybe you left your day job that provided a safety net and you pursued your calling.

First of all congratulations for taking the leap. That is a big deal! That takes a lot of guts. It sounds like you might be experiencing a little bit of imposter syndrome.

This is where you do not feel qualified to do what you are doing. When you start comparing yourself to others you fall victim to this. You perceive them as more successful and then start losing your worth in the process.

New School Year Requires New Goals

New School Year Requires New Goals

It’s that time of year again as students get ready to go back to school. Here is a chance to talk about back to school goals. Students need to know that they have your support with a new school year.

Have you talked about new school year goals with your child?

If your child is in elementary school start out by asking simple questions. Ask what he or she hopes to learn with the new school year. Maybe they want to become a better reader or become more proficient in math.

Write it down on a piece of notebook paper and hang it up on the fridge. This way they will be able to see it as a reminder daily. Their reward will be checking off each goal as they complete it.

Evaluate Goals After One Month

If your child gets off track after a month or so sit down and talk about their goals again. Always ask how their day went. Make it a point to talk about the good and the bad things.

Getting the chance to release it all helps get it off their chest and then it becomes easier to refocus on the things that are important to them.

When your child is in middle school or high school it is a good idea that they get plenty of sleep. Tips for success include: being organized, having bottled water throughout the day and being on time. It is about going back to the basics.

Listening To Your Inner Voice

Listening To Your Inner Voice

Do you know how easy it is to hesitate in making a decision about your dream or your goals? Try listening to your inner voice. I mean stop everything else that you are doing and be an active listener.

Have you ever tried to do that?

Your chances of being successful are much higher when you get in tune with that voice. Your voice is intuition letting you know what you are capable of doing. Self-doubt is the other voice that makes you think that you can’t do something.

I know your inner voice is worth listening to. When you are striving towards the next step with your goal you have to trust your gut. When you do start to trust you experience a shift.

What is that shift?

At first your goal might appear difficult even impossible to do. That is because you are scared of what could happen and that you might fail. No one likes to be a failure at anything.

If you know that you don’t want to fail it’s time to move on to the next thing. That very next step that takes you to the ledge.

Anyone that ever wanted to be successful at something had to experience failure many times over. It is the way that it goes. Once you understand that you can get past the hard stuff.

When you want to complete a goal you have to want it with all of your soul. You can’t be in it halfway and think that the rest will come easy. Goals are work.
