With my Dreamers in Motion column I interview some amazing people who are pursuing their passion. I hope to keep you all inspired with the people who I’m putting under the spotlight.
I think everyone deserves their moment to shine.
Q. Who is Linda Mendible?
Wow, what a question. Currently? A wife, mom & small biz owner/blogger, but most importantly a Christian.
Q. When did you know that you wanted to pursue your dream?
Well I’ve always had a dream to be a business owner and artist. It wasn’t until I actually hit rock bottom that I decided to break away from what other people wanted for my life and started on something I was passionate about. At first I didn’t know where it would lead or what would happen I just knew I had to start. I started with a love I had when I was younger that was always with me which was drawing and painting. It grew and evolved from there.
Q. Has your dream evolved and how so?
Yes, in many ways. From just wanting to be an artist, doing an art exhibit. Then to creating products with my hands, having an etsy shop and now on my way to creating a full lifestyle brand. It took years to figure out who I was designing for. Who my ideal customer & client was. I always had a love for technology and now I create things digitally which will also manifest itself into products. I’m now more focused and clear, but I wouldn’t have gotten here if I didn’t just start, you know?
Q. When did you experience a pivotal moment in your business?
It was this year 2016. Again, I hit a sort of “rock bottom” within my business. Although I was getting traction I came across an obstacle. I was left feeling uninspired, lost and “stuck”, which is currently what I help others come out from. Then in an instant things changed. A few of my followers and friends began to reach out to me for help, I couldn’t believe that maybe I was on to something and I’ve never looked back since, only with the occasional glance. Through it all, in the moments of hitting rock bottom, well Love those were pivotal moments which propelled me forward. They make you realize what you really want vs. what others expect from you. You can continue living for others or you can create the life you want doing the work you were called to do. It’s something I’m passionate about, helping others push through their own limiting beliefs into their limitless potential. That’s what having a strong relationship with God will afford you. Discovering your true authentic self, knowing that your identity doesn’t lie in what you do, or who others think you to be, but who He is. Let me just say this, if it wasn’t for God meeting me in those low places I wouldn’t be pursuing my dreams or be alive today. I thank God for challenging me and equipping me, for allowing me to get lost in order to be found. It didn’t start with complete clarity, zero hardships or trials. It started with a simple step of faith, to dare to dream and to dare to start. What are you waiting for!? The other side of all the mess is a complete surrender and realization of God’s love for you and the fulfillment that it brings including your unique and utterly special purpose. That alone, is all worth it.
Q. What is the best part of doing what you love and how does it keep you going?
The best part? Hmm…I’d say the best part is having a relationship with Christ. We sometimes think that what we have is ours or that who He’s placed around us would be there forever in our lifetime here on this Earth. But I’ve learned that you can’t depend on things, places or people. People will always disappoint you in one way or another (we’re not perfect and sometimes people will move on), things will fade away and places will change but God is the same always. We are constantly looking outwardly for our value, our security and our fulfillment. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33 “ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”. Then Jesus says boldly in John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
When we accept Christ into our hearts, we are acknowledging that God lives through us, that our sins have been washed away, we have been made clean and are a new creation. We can stand boldly before God and God can enter our lives. Then you realize, we have been reconciled with God through Jesus and His sacrifice for this relationship that God longs with you. You are not unworthy but have been purchased with a HUGE price! The kingdom of heaven first begins with unlocking the knowledge of who you are in Christ and the power available to you, with in you. It starts inside, not on what you see, but by faith.
Outside things will never fill us, it’s a relationship with the Creator, with God that will. It’s a relationship with Love.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 2017?
I see myself free… to create what ever it is I can imagine or would like to create.
We put so much limitations on ourselves then, we start to believe these limitations. I have had moments of revelation during my times of creativity that we indeed have the ability to create with immense possibilities. I’ve learned that our limitations come from our approach to life, we can either become rigid as a rock, only wanting our way and how we want “it”, or we can become like water, able to become anything.
Let me bring it home, so I’m a sucker for Kung fu movies and Japanese-anime and one quote that I absolutely love is…
“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”
What I’m saying is, even though I see so much possibilities and of course I have a vision for 2017 to be my best year yet. I want God’s will for my life. So what would 2017 look like? Where ever God has for me, in essence where ever he pours my life into.
Q. What golden nuggets of wisdom can you give on pursuing your dream?
Start. Even if you give just 20 minutes a day, just start. It doesn’t matter how perfect or imperfect it is or how it looks like. How many mistakes or how old you are, nobody started running right out the womb. Neither will obtaining your dream be as easy. Yes, there’s a substantial amount of work involved but that’s the beauty of it, its work you love and live for. Its work you get to do. I love the quote,
“When a child learns to walk and falls down 50 times, he never thinks to himself: “maybe this isn’t for me?”
Q. What are you most proud of with your journey?
Well firstly, that I am totally surrendered to Christ. I don’t believe because someone told me to believe. You have to understand, I didn’t grow up in the church. I believe, because I had a literal encounter with Jesus and He saved me, ME!?
Secondly, I get to guide my children to have that real relationship with God. I get to tell my children to go for their dreams, their calling. I get to tell them to not give up. Lord willing, I get to help them go through the hardships and guide them, on those tough times that we all encounter.
I get to say, when they’re feeling defeated, “The time will pass by anyway…” Hoping that one day, they’ll get it.
I get to say, “They are more than conquerors, special, dearly loved by God and God has a special plan and purpose for their life”, because it’s true!
Q. What are the things that prevent others from pursuing their dream?
What they believe about themselves, about life.
Some think they have to be younger, some older. Others believe they need to be rich or smarter. It all comes down to believing that they need to be “better”, than who they are right now.
The truth is, you need none of those things but to just start, then all these things will be added on to you. Seriously, you’ll feel younger, you’ll be older and you’ll live a rich life from the inside out. Other than smarter, I don’t know about that one. Just kidding!
I don’t know what “better” looks like to you, all I know is that staying stuck where you’re at is stagnation and that stinks. It’s interesting that Jesus refers to himself as a well of living water (refer to John 4). You see, when a body of water is stagnate it starts to rot, it starts to stink and it needs to be unclogged in order for it to flow, to be healthy and full of life. That’s what Jesus does for us. He washes us clean. Strong holds are broken and the chains of sin are no more.
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38
Q. Share your top 3 reasons for being a success in your business.
To glorify God
To leave something of significance for my family. An inheritance, Proverbs 13:22
To live the abundant life Jesus has called us into.
