Listening To Your Inner Voice

Do you know how easy it is to hesitate in making a decision about your dream or your goals? Try listening to your inner voice. I mean stop everything else that you are doing and be an active listener.

Have you ever tried to do that?

Your chances of being successful are much higher when you get in tune with that voice. Your voice is intuition letting you know what you are capable of doing. Self-doubt is the other voice that makes you think that you can’t do something.

I know your inner voice is worth listening to. When you are striving towards the next step with your goal you have to trust your gut. When you do start to trust you experience a shift.

What is that shift?

At first your goal might appear difficult even impossible to do. That is because you are scared of what could happen and that you might fail. No one likes to be a failure at anything.

If you know that you don’t want to fail it’s time to move on to the next thing. That very next step that takes you to the ledge.

Anyone that ever wanted to be successful at something had to experience failure many times over. It is the way that it goes. Once you understand that you can get past the hard stuff.

When you want to complete a goal you have to want it with all of your soul. You can’t be in it halfway and think that the rest will come easy. Goals are work.

This week the question comes from Elena.

Lately, I have been feeling overwhelmed with my day-to-day job. By the time I get home I feel too tired to do anything else after a stressful day. As much as I want to complete my life goals I find myself procrastinating. How do I stop procrastinating?” 

How do I stop procrastinating?

It seems as if no matter how bad you want to complete your goals you find ways to put them off. At first you are headstrong in going after them. Then you manage to get on the hamster wheel.

Working at your day job gives me the impression that it isn’t your first choice. Having a job while pursuing your goals is common. If your goal is to get a different career then you have to put in the time now.

Think of your time after work as your motivation in accomplishing your goals. By looking at your time as an opportunity it changes your mindset.

Completing your goals takes discipline. Try focusing on being committed to dedicating time to your goals after work.

Find time to get active. It might mean getting up earlier and squeezing in a workout. If you would rather do it after work than that might mean sacrificing something else. Look at it as a trade-off for the greater good.

Incorporating fitness into your schedule will help you from feeling tired each day. It is about setting up your day for success.

Keep your goals visible.

Embracing Your Inner Warrior To Propel You Forward

Embracing Your Inner Warrior

Chasing your goals depends on your determination to complete them. You get to decide if you want to pursue them or not. When the going gets tough you must embrace your inner warrior.

Have you ever met your inner warrior?

You might encounter your inner warrior when you feel like giving up on your goals. This warrior has been with you for a long time. It usually won’t make an appearance until you feel like fighting for something.

What are you fighting for?

Maybe it is finding the courage to leave an uncomfortable environment that is toxic to your goals. Perhaps you have been trying to lose a few pounds, you want to take the leap with your dream or leave your current job to find your dream job.

Goals are there for a reason. It’s an opportunity to have happiness with your life, be a role model for others and gives you the motivation to strive for more.

What do you do when fear sets in?

Don’t forget about the naysayers that think your goals or dreams are ridiculous. This is about the time that you want to go run and hide. Some people do and end up going with the flow with what society thinks they should do.

They shy away from their potential to succeed because they fall prey to being insecure. Insecurity comes from not believing what you have the potential of doing. You are too worried about failure.

Ask yourself what you are willing to do.

Fight for your dreams and goals every step of the way. Yes, it can be scary. However, if you embrace your inner warrior your end result will be your reward.

Think of your inner warrior as that one friend who is ready to stand up for you. It’s that friend that feeds you inspiration at the perfect time. A time when you think something is impossible.

Have you ever wanted something so badly that it consumed your thoughts?

If you look at it as more than a whim or a hobby it grows into something bigger. You end up feeding your desire with willpower.

Athletic Wear for the Gym and Adventure

When I decided to go to TreeRunner Adventure Park in Raleigh, NC I wanted to make sure that I would be comfortable. Being prepared to climb and use the strength in your body requires comfort and reliability.

I chose this outfit because I liked the colors and I liked the way that it fit on me. Plus, TJMaxx had some great deals that I couldn’t pass up on. Here are some of the brands that I bought: Balance Collection, Reebok, and Lorna Jane.

My Reebok sports bra was a great fit and I am a sucker for anything black with this go to item.

When I saw these capri leggings, I knew they had my name all over them. Super cute print and they allowed me to move around freely. Not only could I use them for my outdoor adventures, but they are great for the gym too.

The contrast in the print with the leggings got my attention right away. I figured why not make it fun right? I could imagine all the other cute tops that would match them.

Aerial Fun With TreeRunner Adventure Park

Have you had to confront your biggest fear yet?

I have always admired people who can go on rope courses and who can go zip lining. It takes a certain level of bravery to do that. Personally, I have had a fear of heights ever since I can remember.

It took me quite some time to even attempt getting on a plane. However, if I ever wanted to get anywhere I knew that I had to get used to it. Over the years I noticed I’m not quite the thrill seeker when it comes to certain rollercoasters either.

That was teenage life. When you lived life without fear. It was easier to do those kind of things way back then.

I met Amanda McClellan at the Southern Womens Show and she told me about Treerunner Adventure opening up in the summer. She invited me to come out and give it a try sometime.

Here are some facts about me. I’m afraid of heights, but I still ride rollercoasters and have taken a helicopter ride. I love both. However, I don’t try to go to the third floor at my job unless I have to. If I do then I walk up the steps on the wall side versus the rail side.

Sounds weird right?

Meeting Amanda must have been fate because the next thing I knew we were collaborating and setting it up on our calendars. I recruited my business bestie Linda Mendible to shoot my pics.

Treerunner Adventure Park is located at 12804 Norwood Rd. in Raleigh, NC. It was super easy to get to and a short drive for me to get there. I scheduled my visit in the morning and was fortunate to have two other ladies in my group Beverly and Lee. It was their first time too.

We were introduced to Cole Whittaker who took us through the basics of the equipment and a mini rope course. The clips attached to my lanyard were a little tricky at first. After a few tries it got easier. The good news is that everyone gets to practice before they attempt the real course.

Did I mention that this whole time I was stepping out of my comfort zone?

“I am a mother of two kids and work full-time. I’m also a wife, a friend and I am constantly doing stuff. I would love to start getting fit, but I do a lot of self-sabotaging. I’m tired of making excuses. I lack motivation and often wonder what I would look like if I had the body that I used to have before my beautiful children. I want to keep the spice alive as a wife, but am not sure where to go from here. My husband says that he loved me then and still loves me now. If I could start some kind of routine and diet I know that would boost my self-esteem. What can I do to get on the right track this time?”

First of all let me start by saying thank you for reaching out to me. It takes a lot of courage to bring up wanting to get fit and explaining what you have gone through. Your situation is so relatable to many.

I know it is tough when you work a full-time job plus have a family to take care of. Luckily our children are older and very independent. Don’t let that fool you though because you will always be needed. That’s not a bad thing either, I welcome it.

Start by making a list of the reasons why you want to get fit. What do you hope to gain from it? I’m not talking about pounds either. Think about the reasons why fitness would be good for you.

What would happen if you were to shed the weight and tone up?

I have found that your fitness journey is what you make of it. You can join any program, try any diet, watch a ton of videos on fitness, but in the end it is up to you.

You will always get advice on what to do and what not to do. If you work out diligently three times a week and then continue to eat the way that you’re used to guess what happens? You don’t see the results that you are looking for.

Finish Your Own Race

There is so much advice on the ways that will help you accomplish your goals. You can google information at a click of a button. It is always at your disposal.

I have read some great articles on honing your craft in writing, blogging, marketing, fitness, business and archery too. Who doesn’t want to improve and become their best?

Reading these type of articles or posts is a learning experience. I have learned that my dreams and goals are unique to me. Do I yearn for getting to “peach gang” status with my glutes someday or becoming a New York Times best-selling author?

I would love that, but in the meantime I am accountable for myself and in the way that I get there. Although it is easy to enter the comparison game it doesn’t have to be a competition.

Imagine a marathon runner. Who are they running for? Many times it is for a special event, but deep down they are running for themselves. To get to the end of the road on their own.

Marathon runners put in the work, the sweat and the time. They prep in advance by dedicating all that it takes. To ensure that they will be their absolute best on the day of their marathon.

Does everyone finish first?

“How do you break bad news to a good friend? It’s a friend that I’ve known for a long time. I’m unsure of whether I should be the one to do it or if I should turn the other cheek.”

Giving bad news to anyone is never easy. Especially to a good friend. I guess it would depend on the kind of bad news that you have to deliver. There are a few things that you have to consider.

Will giving the bad news hurt your relationship?

Is there a chance that your friend will blame you or get upset with you? Sometimes it is easier for another person to give the bad news. How will your friend benefit from being informed?

Depending on the nature of the bad news how do you think you will feel afterwards? If you will feel relieved and think that your friend will appreciate knowing sharing the news might be best.

Be strategic in your delivery. Depending on what kind of friend that you have will determine how you will deliver the news. There are some friends that might be able to handle bad news more easily than others.

Think about the types of friends that you have. You have those that are tough and can take it. There are those too that might feel shattered and lost once you tell them.

“Growing up it was easier to make friends easily wherever that you went. As a grown up this has been a challenging thing for me. How do you make friends as a grown up?”

I love this question Sonia because I am all about making new friends. It was so much easier as a little kid to make friends. You see when you are a kid anything goes.

Go to any public park and watch kids from all walks of life play with each other. No judgements are being made most of the time. They interact with each other for the same reasons. To play with each other and have a good time while doing it.

Don’t you wish that were still the case as an adult?

As a grown up you have become seasoned to the world. You are more aware of what you do and don’t like in people. As adults you tend to be a bit more selective and cautious with people in general.

Are you a shy person or do you like to mingle and get to know people?

From your question, I’m going to guess that maybe you can be a little shy. There is nothing wrong with being shy. What are your interests as an adult? Do you have any children?

Think of the things that you like to do. What are your hobbies and interests outside of work or the home?

Getting Out of Your Own Way

Ever find a roadblock on the road?

Usually there will be a detour that isn’t the most convenient, but you take it nonetheless. Roadblocks come up in your journey too. That dream or goal of yours doesn’t go away because of a little roadblock.

How do you identify the roadblocks within your dream?

The biggest one that you will have is yourself. How is that even possible right? If you avoid the things that you are afraid of doing then you end up quitting. That right there is what should scare you the most.

Can you imagine not following your passion because you were too afraid to?

Not me, not even for a minute. Over the years I have been quite the procrastinator. I used to be the one that only wrote when I felt like it. I’d wait around for my muse the same way one waits to see the next rainbow.

Over the past year I have learned that my biggest roadblock has been me. Hard to admit that in public, but this is a place where I have to be honest. Fear of the unknown is a powerful thing.
