Ever read up on ways that you can enhance yourself?
Pick up any magazine and there will always be articles on things that can make you look better. Whether it is a hot new hair color, a sexy outfit or the latest beauty fad. Recently I was catching up on social media and noticed a picture of getting New Years Eve ready by getting a spray tan.
As a teen I grew up when tanning salons and laying outside in the sun were all the rage. I grew into becoming a woman and that all changed. Taking care of your skin became a priority.
Have you tried taking better care of your skin?
I decided to ask Nancy of Caliente Expressions Tanning about doing this for myself. I wanted to know how I should prep for it, what to expect during and then after the tanning treatment.
She let me know that wearing a swimsuit was optional and that most people didn’t wear anything at all. Talk about inhibitions going through my mind. When I heard her say that I thought there is no way I could do that!
I had all kinds of thoughts. Would I be able to stand there in the buff comfortably? Would I be self-conscious?
What was the worst thing that could happen if I did?
I have been pretty active with fitness for about a year. I earned the right to feel pretty darn good about myself. Even if I hadn’t been active I would still want to feel good about my body image.
Here is what happens when you let go of your inhibitions. You gain more confidence, less fear, less stress and less worry.
It has a soothing affect over your well being. The same way that you go and get a massage for the first time is similar. Or you try something else that is out of your comfort zone.
I couldn’t imagine allowing someone to see me au natural with the exception of my husband. I got to thinking though. Did I want to live life worrying about what other people would think? Or perhaps being judged.
Going in to pamper myself to get a gorgeous glow has to be the most empowering and liberating experience I’ve ever had. I felt deserving of such an experience. The best part was that Nancy was so professional with it.
I remember when it was all said and done that at home while I checked out the color I felt sexier. Sure the pretty color had something to do with it. Although I believe I felt sexier because I was brave enough to get it done.
In that moment I wanted to feel and look incredible as a surprise for my husband, but also for me. I wanted to conquer being self-conscious or overly critical of my body.
Ever exhaled a big sigh of relief?
That was me after I realized that I had finally let go of some inhibitions. That it was okay to do and that I was giving myself that permission.
What did I learn from this?
That sometimes you have to just jump in. Don’t just put your toes in the water to see if it’s safe or to see if it feels comfortable.
There are times in life that you have to put yourself in an uncomfortable setting in order to get over it. You end up finding out that it wasn’t so bad after all. That you had what it took to try.
I learned that I can do whatever I want to do. I don’t have to worry about not being good enough, pretty enough or sexy enough.
Do you know why?
I am enough by simply being me. That’s where the true beauty is. It’s that way for all of us women that are empowered to be comfortable in our own skin.
